Roof and Attic Insulation Rebates in Los Angeles
Los Angeles utilities pay you back for installing a reflective cool roof and for adding attic insulation, and a new Class A roof can also lower what you pay for home insurance. What you qualify for depends on which utility serves your home.
What rebates can I get for a new roof or attic insulation in Los Angeles?
If LADWP serves your home (City of Los Angeles)
- Cool Roof rebate: up to $0.60 per square foot for qualifying reflective roofing installed over conditioned living space.
- Attic Insulation Rebate Program: $0.50 per square foot for attic insulation rated above R-19, or $0.30 per square foot at R-19 or below, up to 80% of the project cost, one rebate per home every 15 years.
Both are first-come while funds last and require a permit, a licensed contractor, and before-and-after attic photos. LADWP Consumer Rebate Program
If SCE and SoCalGas serve your home (most of the Valley, Orange, Ventura, and Riverside)
- Southern California Edison offers attic insulation rebates, and its whole-home Home Performance Plus program can stack rebates into the thousands when insulation is paired with high-efficiency HVAC.
- SoCalGas offers insulation rebates through the same whole-home upgrade programs.
We install qualifying cool roofing and attic insulation and provide the itemized invoice, permit, and product documentation these rebates require. Rebate programs change and funds are limited, so confirm the current offer on your utility\'s page before you start.
Can a new roof lower my home insurance, or keep me insured?
Staying insured
In California\'s fire-prone areas, the bigger issue is often staying insured at all. Insurers are non-renewing homes with old, worn, or fire-inappropriate roofs. An aging roof in a high-fire-risk area can get a policy declined or non-renewed, which can force the owner onto the California FAIR Plan, the state\'s insurer of last resort, where coverage usually costs more and covers less. A new Class A rated roof is the kind of upgrade that helps keep you eligible for standard-market coverage.
On premiums
California\'s Safer from Wildfires regulation requires insurers to offer discounts for wildfire mitigation, and a Class A roof is one of the highest-weighted measures. Homeowners can see discounts up to around 14.5% in the standard market, and up to about 24.5% in total hardening credits on the FAIR Plan. Actual discounts vary by carrier, so ask your insurer what your roof qualifies for.
